Born as Ella Marija Lani Yelich-O’Connor on the 7th of November on 1996, in Takapuna, Auckland, New Zealand, Lorde grew up with her mother Sonja Yelich, who is a poet and father Vic O’Connor, who is a civil engineer and two sisters, Jerry and India, and a brother, Angelo.
She developed public speaking skills through a drama group and attended Vauxhall School, followed by Belmont Intermediate School. Lorde thanks her mother for her lyrical skills as her mother was the one who made Lorde read a wide range of genres.
She went on to study at Takapuna Grammar School In between 2010 and 2013 while she was pursuing her music goals.
Professional Life
Lorde had already begun her musical career when she won the Belmont Intermediate School annual talent show with friend Louis McDonald. The duo, which they called “Ella and Louis” performed a series of concerts and live music covers after that at many high standard places including the Roasted Addiction Café in Kingland and Victoria Theatre in Devonport.
She was given singing lessons by Frances Dickinson, hired by UMG, and started out her songwriting career as well. But her initial phase, as a songwriter, wasn’t as successful. After she was paired with Joel Little in the December of 2011, a singer, record producer and songwriter, the duet recorded five songs.
Lorde was able to release her recorded song The Love Club EP from her SoundCloud account for free download and the song was download 60000 times and reached number two on the records charts of New Zealand after the record was released in March 2013.
Later in June, her single “Royals” became the number one single and she became the youngest artist to achieve it. Furthermore, Royals stayed on number 1 for nine consecutive weeks on the US Billboard Hot 100. The song was so hit that it received the 2014 ARPA Silver Scroll Award, along with two Grammy Awards for Best Pop Solo Performance and Song of the Year at the 56th Annual Grammy Awards.
Her debut album Pure Heroine became number 1 in several countries including New Zealand and Australia. It became the nominee for the Grammy Award for Best Pop Vocal Album. Before Pure Heroine, Lorde had released four singles: “Tennis Court” in June 2013, and became number 1 in New Zealand. The movie The Hunger Games: Catching Fire put on of Lordes cover “Tears for Fears” as one of its soundtracks.
She went on to sign a $2.5 million contract with Songs Music Publishing, giving SMP the right to license Lorde’s music for films and advertising.

Lorde’s career, to be frank, has just really begun. The 21-year-old has yet to fully explore her talents and further polish her skills. As a young artist, she has already achieved what most devoted singers dream of - won several Grammys and topped the charts numerous times.
It’s not exactly accurate, but it’s estimated that her total net worth is approximately around $12 million. Astonishing! If she can reach these heights at such a young age, it’s hard to imagine how far she can go in the futhre.
