Tom Llamas

Although he is professionally known as Tom Llamas, Llamas’ full name is Thomas Edward Llamas. He celebrates his birthday on the 2nd of July and was born in Miami, Florida in the United States of America in 1979.

His parents are natives of Cuba and had immigrated to the States because of unstable political conditions. Llamas pursued higher education in Drama and Broadcast Journalism at Loyola University at New Orleans, Louisiana and graduated college with a Bachelor’s degree.

Llamas tied the marital knot with Jennifer Llamas and the happy couple has been blessed with two beautiful children.

Llamas took the first steps into his professional journalism career from NBC News Special Unit in 2000. After that, he joined MSNBC and worked with the network for around 5 years (2000-2005) as a political broadcaster.

With an accelerating pace in his career progression, he later began working at WTVJ, an NBC affiliate at Miami and shifted from there to WNBC and NBC News in order to work as the station’s general assignment reporter in 2009.

Llamas joined another news giant ABC News in the September of 2014 and began working as a correspondent based in New York, working on ABC World News Tonight, replacing David Muir. In 2015, he rose up in ranks, becoming the program’s Sunday anchor, eventually becoming its sole weekend anchor only two years after that, in the January of 2017.

In his career, Llamas has deservingly won many prestigious awards thanks to his exceptional broadcasting abilities and praiseworthy confidence in front of the camera. He was awarded an Emmy Award as the Best Anchor and for the Best Hard News Story.

He has been honored with an Edward R. Murrow Award for his exemplary work while covering Hurricane Sandy from WNBC-TV. Llamas has also received an Emmy Award for outstandingly covering Hurricane Irene in 2013.
