Tarek El Moussa was born on 21 August 1981 in Long Beach, California, the United States of America. There is lots of confusion on Tarek's ethnicity: he is of white ethnicity and his parents too are from the States.
Tarek El Moussa and wife Christina married in the year 2009 but they decided to get split filing divorce in 2017. The main reason given for the separation was irreconcilable differences. This couple together has a daughter named Taylor El Moussa and son Brayden El Moussa.
While this couple was together the pregnancy issue they faced was the highlight. As per Christina's bio in a wiki page, Tarek was in his second stage of thyroid cancer in 2013, they decided to bank his sperm and give a try in vitro fertilization. Until the second attempt, there was no succession. And on the third try wife, Christina became pregnant however she was not able to lift any heavy tools even her small daughter for many time.
In 2013, an observant viewer of the show “Flip or Flop” noticed the enlarged lump on Tarek’s throat and wrote to him to have a biopsy. After testing, it was revealed that it was in fact cancerous. Tarek immediately underwent therapy for thyroid cancer. During an interview with PEOPLE, he revealed that although times were tough, he remains optimistic with regards the future of his family.
In early 2017, Tarek shared a news of him still being cancer free. He stated, 'Still cancer-free!!! Having cancer is a very scary thing… I always get nervous going into each check up and today I got GREAT news!! Having no thyroid and balancing medications is tough! I'm finally at UCLA and I'm on the right doses of medication.'
Professional Career
Tarek El Moussa earned his real estate license when he was 21 and began working in the real estate industry. Christina too began work right after college and met Tarek at a real estate office. After several meeting, they started dating each other and married later. Even after their marriage, they are working together.
Professionally, the couple worked together as real estate agents and began flipping homes while living in a $6000/month mortgage until the sudden October 2008 stock market crash. Tarek and Christina found themselves struggling to rebuild and downgraded to living in a $700/month rental to save money.
Things took a turn for the better as Tarek, in 2011, requested a friend of his to help him make an audition tape for HGTV. The audition tape included the entire process of house flipping and it induced interest in HGTV towards the couple’s work and subsequently signed them on to a regular weekly program called “Flip or Flop”.
Initially, HGTV, unsure if the program will take off, aired the program at the ungodly hour of 11 pm. “Flip or Flop” took on a whirlwind success and was named as one of the crazy addictive shows.
The show which includes insights into the family life of Tarek and Christian follows them as they buy homes, bank-owned, short sales, or foreclosures to renovate and resell. By 2013, the duo was making a hefty $10000 per episode.
In addition to that, they also lead ‘Success Path Education’ which is a real estate investment seminar series held across North America for aspiring investors. In the workshops, the couple helps amateur investors to learn the tricks of flipping houses.
The techniques, made simple into a series of repeatable steps, were refined by their many years of experience in the field. As of today, the couple also runs a real estate agency named as “The El Moussa Group" in Orange County, California.
