Thomas Scott “Flip” Phillips was born on 22nd February, 1973 in Georgia, United States.
Phillips grew up in a music devoted family and thus he was introduced to music at a very young age since he literally grew up listening to the sound of his dad’s triplet buzz and his mom’s piano and guitar tunes. His grandma also taught Piano lessons.
However, Phillips showed interest in a completely new field: percussions. He showed great passion for drumming since his childhood but for his parent’s legacy to be passed on, he began playing the piano when he was only 3 years old and the saxophone when he was 6. He was skilled at playing both and played them for his school marching band.
He currently lives with his wife and daughter in Central Florida
Professional Life
Scott taught himself how to play the drums at the age of 18 after being motivated by the drummers on MTV. Soon after that, he joined his first band Crosscut.
Later, he joined Creed, a band specializing in different genera such as post-grunge, alternative rock, hard rock and heavy metal, and is highly credited for his part behind the keyboard and drums in Creed’s album Weathered from 2001.
Creed is one of the most popular bands of the 2000s as it sold over 53 million albums worldwide, and 28 million records in the United States. He joined Alter Bridge, an experimental and progressive band known for specializing in the same genres as that of Creed, with then-former Creed members – bassist Brian Marshall and lead guitarist Mark Tremonti.
Phillips joined the supergroup Projected with musicians from Sevendust and Submersed in 2012.
