Rachel Brand

Rachel Brand was born on May 1, 1973, in Muskegon, Michigan.

Her father and forefathers are Dutch dairy farmers. She was raised in Pella, Iowa where she attended Pella Christian High School. She played sports, edited yearbook, took part in the senior class play and played in the band. She also wrote a “Senior Will and Testament” for the yearbook.

She switched to the University of Minnesota Morris for B.A. degree in political science. She did her further education at Harvard Law School.

Rachel Brand is married to Jonathan Cohn and has four children. 

 After her J.D. degree, she clerked for Massachusetts Supreme Judicial Court Justice Charles for two years ( 1998- 99)and for U.S. Supreme Court Anthony Kennedy in 2002-03.

In 1999, Brand also worked in the firm at Copper and Kirk.

From 2000 to 2007 she served in Bush administration - In 2003 she was Assistant Attorney General for the Office of Legal Policy in George W. Bush administration.

Barack Obama appointed her to serve on Privacy and Civil Liberties Oversight Board in 2012.Brand dissented from several recommendation-she declined to join Board's view.The Board for this suggested Program's Terminal.

 President Donald Trump nominated Brand for the United States Associate Attorney General on February 1st, 2017 and she was sworn in on 22nd May 2017. On 9th February 2018, the New York Times reported her plan to resign from Justice Department. 

The 3rd Ranked official at Justice Dept. , Rachel Brand gave up on her job on 9th February 2018. Her resignation came after nine months on the job-a decision with big issue for special counsel Robert Mueller’s investigations

It's reported DOJ has suffered a wave of attacks from Trump and his supporters. CNN talks about her cause of resignation:

A source familiar with Brand's plans said she is going to accept a job at Walmart. A second source said she is leaving DOJ "because she got a great job."

The whole of the justice department wants her to stay and continue her job, but on the next hand, they are happy that she is leading her path towards the private organization.
