Personal Life
Elbagir was born in the July of 1978. Her father – a journalist – was imprisoned before she even opened her eyes. Her mother was the first publisher in her home country.
She, along with her family shifted to the United Kingdom when she was three years old but moved back to Sudan when she turned eight. Later she again came back to the United Kingdom after spending 6 years in Sudan.
Elbagir has studied in both UK and Sudan. She went to The London School of Economics and graduated with a Bachelor’s degree in Philosophy.
She is currently in a relationship with a British diplomat.
Professional Life
Nima Elbagir’s journalism career began as a reporter for Reuters in December 2002, where she had to cover the conflicts in the Darfur region of Sudan. She shifted from reporting to Broadcast journalism and worked for More4 News from 2005.
At More4 News, she worked with the executives there to expose the rape accusations made against the African Union in Darfur. She had the opportunity to interview the Aegis security company whistleblower on the Iraq “Trophy Videos” and Jacob Zuma at his 2006 rape trial. She also covered the US bombing of Somalia in January 2007.
She was permitted access interview Mohammed Hamdan Dogolo, one of the main Arab Janjaweed Commanders, while she was filming her first documentary “Meet the Janjaweed” with Unreported World.
She even managed to film and broadcast the first documentary revealing evidence of how the Sudanese government was directly involved with the Janjaweed and how the China’s arms sales were affecting Darfur.
Elbagir moved on to work for CNN as a international correspondent based at London.
Elbagir received the specialist reporting award from the Royal Television Society and two awards from the Foreign Press Association. She has also been a nominee for the Amnesty Award and the Royal Television Society Awards.

Despite her continuous hard work and dedication to journalism, the social media hasn’t yet recognized as a great personality.
Available at @NimaCNN on Twitter, Elbagir has only around 9900 followers and has tweeted 407 times. Maybe the 39-year-old will go viral in the near future after people finally recognize her achievements.
She also posesses a Facebook account in which 6700 people have liked her page and 6900 people are following her.
