Jerry Springer : Family and Personal life
Jerry Springer’s father, Richard Springer was the owner of a shoe shop and his mother, Margot Springer was a bank clerk in Landsberg an der Warthe, Poland. They had to escape to England to save their lives during the World War II as they were Jewish. Richard and Margot were taking refuge at Highgate tube station, London, England when he was born on 13th February 1944. His family suffered a lot of trouble because of the World War II.
He lost both his maternal and paternal grandmothers because of the war. The family immigrated to Kew Gardens, Queens, New York in January 1949. He attended Forest Hills High School there. He earned B.A. in political science and J.D. from Tulane University (1965) and Northwestern University, respectively. Other than his little remembrance of the fights of the World War II, he does not share many details of his personal life. He got married to Micki Velton in 1973. She gave birth to their only child, a daughter, Katie Springer in 1976.

Jerry Springer has been active in the political field since 1970. He ran for Congress. Though he lost he was able to gain 45% of the votes in a traditionally Republican District. He later got elected to the Cincinnati city council. He resigned from the council after admitting he hired a prostitute. Everyone believed his political career to be over but his honesty helped him get right up and he was chosen to serve as a mayor in 1977.
His career in journalism started back during his undergraduate years at Tulane University on WTUL New Orleans FM, a college radio station.
He also worked at a rock radio station, WEBN-FM. The popularity of his commentaries show, “The Springer Memorandum” is what launched his broadcast career. His television talk show “Jerry Springer” garnered 6.7 million viewers, even beating The Oprah Winfrey Show in many cities.
He was one of the celebrity in the MTV animated show, Celebrity Deathmatch where clay animation of the celebrities would fight each other to death.
