Choe Un Song was born on 7th December, 1992 in Manpo, North Korea. His interest in speed skating was incited when his father gave him a pair of skates.
After going to Manpo Youth Sports School, Song continued to train at Ganggye-dong First Education University. Song is 5 feet and 7 inches and is guided by coach Yun Chol.

Choe Un Song took part in the 2018 Winter Olympics in the men’s 1500 meters category. However, the first North Korean in the competition was unable to qualify for the semifinals as he was eliminated after finishing last with a time of 2:18:213.
Nevertheless, the energetic and enthusiastic crowd of 100 North Korean cheerleaders cheers for him from the stands throughout the whole thing.
It is speculated that the North Korean was unable to display his full potential since he has been recently injured during a training session in Pyeongchang.
