Bonnie Bernstein: Birth, Early Life, Education
Bonnie Lynn Bernstein was born on the 16th of August in Brooklyn, New York in the United States of America and was raised in a Jewish family. She spent her childhood in Howell, New Jersey.
For her early education, Bernstein studied at the Howell High School and became a salutatorian from her class. For higher studies, she went on to study at the University of Maryland and later graduated by earning a Bachelor’s degree in Broadcast Journalism.
While she was in college, Bernstein showed exceptional talent by winning the Academic All-America title in gymnastics four times for which she was awarded the Thomas M. Field awards.
Bernstein has not revealed her marital status to any kind of publications yet. But from rumors, it’s said that she had tied the knot with Roy Thornton. Unfortunately, the marriage with Thornton didn’t work out so the couple filed a divorce. Bernstein later married Grant Reynolds and divorced him as well. Bonnie Bernstein: Professional Life
Bonnie Bernstein started her career in journalism through radio by working as a news and sports director at WXJN-FM. She worked at the station for three years and later departed to join WMDT-TV, an ABC affiliate in Salisbury, Maryland where she was assigned to work as the station’s weekend news presenter. Following this, she joined KRNV-TV, becoming the first woman weekday sports anchor at the station.
Bernstein came into the lime light after she was hired by ESPN to fill in the position of the network’s Chicago Bureau Chief in 1995. In 1998, she departed from ESPN to join CBS Sports’ sideline reporting team during the coverage of NCAA Men’s Basketball Championships.
Alongside this, she was also working at The NFL Today as a feature reporter, later moving on to working at NFL on CBS as the sideline reporter. After years of hard work, she was finally promoted to join Jim Nantz and Phil Simms’ lead crew after which she had the opportunity to cover Super Bowls XXXV and XXXVIII. In the process of covering Super Bowl XXXVIII, she achieved the milestone of becoming the first ever correspondent to have covered the glorious game for CBS Sports and Westwood One Radio i.e. both network radio and television.
Bernstein returned back to ESPN in the January of 2006 and was assigned on Sunday Night Baseball’s field reporting team alongside Jon Miller and Joe Morgan. Later, she moved on to hosting on radio by joining 1050 ESPN Radio to co-host The Michael Kay Show.
Over the years, Bernstein has made guest appearances as a commentator on numerous big news networks like FOX News Channel, NBC and even MSNBC as a sports analyst.
