Anthea Milicent Turner was born on the 25th of May in Stoke-on-Trent, Staffordshire, England in 1960 as the daughter of Brian and Jean Turner. For her early education, she was sent to the direct grant grammar catholic school, followed by St. Dominic’s High School for Girls at South Staffordshire.
She grew up with her parents and has two siblings, both sisters. One of her sisters is a news presenter, Wendy Turner Webster. Unfortunately, she lost the other sister, Ruth, who was only 15 years old.
The lucky man to tied the marital knot with Turner turned out to none other than her manager, Peter Powell, who is also a former DJ. The couple got married in 1990 but sadly, their marriage lasted only until 1998. Later Turner was involved in a relationship with Grant Bovey, who was also married.
Bovey left his wife to marry Turner in 23rd of August in 2000. Unfortunately, even this marriage didn’t seem to work out for Turner as the couple split up in 2012 and officially divorced in October of 2015.
Anthea Turner: Professional Life and Career
Turner began by working as a runner for BBC Radio Stoke and later becoming a party of Bruno Brookes’s rap crew. After this, she shifted her career focus towards television and joined Sky Channel and Music Box where she had to present live music programs.
She successfully debuted on national television with BBC’s But First This and was later chosen to front two more series on the network’s Saturday morning show UP2U.
She was severely injured with burns and had lost her hearing temporarily during a failed motorbike stunt on UP2U. She has also presented the Top of the Pops for 3 years from the October of 1988 to the May of 1991 and later moved on to presenting Blue Peter, a children’s television show, for which she mostly recognized. She later presented on Music Box’s Totally Live and then began serving GMTV as a presenter.
On BBC One, Turner hosted the first National Lottery in 19th November 1994 and has also made two videos on fitness and workout: Anthea Turner Body Basics (1996) and Anthea Turner: Tone, Life and Condition: The Inch Buster (1999). She has also published her autobiography Fools Rush In, which was placed at number 581 on the Bestsellers chart.
She later hosted a Saturday evening program Your Kids Are in Charge on BBC One in 2000. But because the show was not aired for long, she only made another appearance on television, as a comeback, in 2006, on the show Anthea Turner: Perfect Housewife on BBC Three. She has made a guest appearance on the show Never Mind the Buzzcocks on BBC Two.
Turner went on to take up the position of host on the Health Lottery draws on Channel 5 by replacing Anne Diamond and Sian Welby.
Besides these, Turner has made brief and guest appearances on many of the popular shows on BBC.
Turner participated on the popular series Dancing on Ice’s eight edition in 2013 partnering with a professional skater Andrew Buchanan.
