For her education, she went to the University of Western Ontario and graduated with a Bachelor in science degree in 1980. Assuras went on to get a Master’s degree in Journalism in 1981.
Assuras is also one of the founding members of The Next Generation Initiative, a program aimed to improve the leadership skills of students by involving them in public affairs. She was honored by the Daughters of Penelope with the “2000 Salute to Women” awards. Assuras also received the Marie Torre Memorial award in 2001.
Professional Life
Assuras started her career in journalism by working at CITY-TV and Global Television as a reporter and weekend anchor for 3 years (1985 to 1988), during which she hosted the show CityPulse during the weekends.
She also anchored at Global TV at evenings in 1989. Assuras moved on to anchor Canada AM at CTV from 1992 to 1993, followed by ABC, where she was partnered with Aaron Brown to co-host the World News Now and ABC World News This Morning in May 1993.
Prior to her departure from ABC in January 1997, she had co-anchored with other famous personalities including Boyd Matson, Kevin Newman, and Mark Mullen.
In 1997, Assuras was hired by CBS to join on a cable network, CBS Eye On People and moved up to the position of national correspondent, eventually becoming the anchor for the CBS Morning News in 1998. She was also assigned with the responsibility of co-anchoring The Saturday Early Show and CBS Evening News Saturday in 1999. After a progressive career at CBS, she departed the news station in July 2009 after her contract expired.
Assuras has also anchored a half-hour weekly TV-news magazine and opinion program produced by the American Clean Skies Foundation, energyNOW!, which was first aired by WJLA-TV, followed by Bloomberg TV. She has also founded a “consulting practice for strategic planning, media relations, criss management, media training and executive coaching.”
Social Media
Assuras, despite being a popular media personality and a face recognized by most, isn’t really fond of boosting her social profile through social networking sites.
Maybe she really likes to keep her personal life really private. Nonetheless, the 60-year-old’s popularity isn’t any lesser than other journalists of her caliber.
