Katie Couric : Personal Life
Katie Couric was born on 7 January 1975 Arlington, Virginia, United States of America. Her parents are John Martin Couric and mother is Elinor Tullie. Her father John was a public relations executive and mother was a housewife and a part-time writer. She is a graduate of the University of Virginia in 1979 with a degree in American Studies, before that she studied Yorktown High School. Katie first attended Arlington Public Schools.
Katie Couric is married to John Paul Monahan and together has two children. Their first daughter, Elinor Tully Monahan' was born in 1991 and the second daughter was in 1996 in New York named Caroline Monahan. This family lived a happy life until Katie's husband passed away due to colon cancer in the year 1998. John was just 42 then.
As Katie lost one of the most precious parts of her life she then got started getting involved in awareness program related to colon cancer. Being the spokesperson for this disease she has done many inspirational works to motivate people to undergo colon cancer test. She even herself when went through colonoscopy on-air in 2000.
He sister Emily Couric also died due to cancer. She had pancreatic cancer and passed when 54. After her sister's death, she has become the member of the different foundation. She has been seen as a guest in Multiple Myeloma Research Foundation at the fall gala in 2004, American Cancer Society Discovery Ball inauguration program and much more. Some of the other organizations she is associated with are National Hockey League's Hockey Fights Cancer and National Parkinson Foundation.
Currently, she is engaged to her fiancé John Molner. They were in a relationship for almost two years before they got engaged in September 2013. Later this couple got married on 21 June 2014 organizing a private ceremony at her home located in The Hamptons.
Katie Couric : Professional Career
Katie Couric career started when she was in her high school. She was an intern at the all-news radio station WAVA in Washington. After the completion of her university, she then got the position at 'The Cavalier Daily' a famous award-winning daily newspaper. Later her real career started as he officially joined ABC News bureau in Washington D.C. in 1979.
After some years of work in ABC News, she shifted to CNN as an assignment editor. Katie also worked as a general assignment reporter for CBS's WTVJ in Miami, Florida for two years. Later she was seen reporting for NBC own WRC-TV in D.C, during that time she won her first Emmy Award and Associated Press award. She got success in her initial years of her television career. She then got hired by NBC News as a Deputy Pentagon reporter in 1989.
In April 1991 she became the permanent co-anchor for the show 'Today'; it was the consequence to Norville, precious co-anchor, leaving the show. Before that, she joined the show just as a political correspondent. 'Now with Tom Brokaw and Katie Couric' was her next show as a co-anchor but it was terminated and she ends up being the anchor of the Dateline NBC. Katie worked for the 'Today' and 'NBC News' for fifteen years and left on 31 May 2006.
Leaving NBC she moved to CBS and anchored CBS Evening News which made her the first female anchor for the weekday nightly news broadcasts. It is said that being the anchor at CBS she earned $15 million per year and she became the highest-paid journalist in the world during the time. During her career at CBS, her well-known show was CBS Evening News with Katie Couric for which she won Edward R. Murrow Award for best newscast in 2008 and 2009.
Being there she also covered the 2006 mid-term election, 2008 Presidential election, 2010 midterm elections and so on. The notable shows she did working for CBS are 60 Minutes, Palin Interviews, CBS Reports, and @katiecouric.
In 2011 Katie Couric again joined ABC News in New York and appeared on a talk show 'Nightline'. There she was the co-host of 'The View' and 'Live! with Regis and Kelly'. Katie was also seen on 'Good Morning America' as the substitute of Robin Roberts. In 2011 she made $40 million contracts with ABC for Disney-ABC Domestic Television. Since November 2013 she has is making huge contributions for Yahoo! as a Global Anchor of Yahoo! News.
