Jessica Mendoza : Personal Life
Jessica Ofelia Mendoza, who celebrates her birthday on the 11th of November, was born in Camarillo, California, in United States of America in 1980 as the daughter of Karen and Gil Mendoza.
She was raised along with her three siblings – a brother, Walt and two sisters, Elena and Alana. Her father is a former football player, who played for Fresno State University.
Mendoza attended Stanford University and graduated with a Master’s degree in Social Science and Education.
Mendoza went on to marry Adam Burks. The happy couple has been blessed with two beautiful children – both sons – Caleb Ashton and Caden Adam.
She serves as the President of the Women’s Sports Foundation and is also the athletic ambassador for Team Darfur. Mendoza is also on the board of the National Education Association.
Jessica Mendoza : Softball Career
At Stanford, Mendoza entered her softball career with a bang being named the “Newcomer of the Year” after setting new records for the season batting average. She was able to defeat Illinois State on the 6th of March, 1999 and became the National Fastpitch Coaches Association “Player of The Week.”
Mendoza was able to receive several of these best player awards because of the incredible form that she was in every season. She set a record in her school for 19 consecutive game hit streak starting from February 29th until March 22nd, 2000.
She was able to earn the First Team citations for conference and the NCAA during the final season.
During the four years in college, Mendoza broke and set multiple records and place her career doubles, triples, RBIs and walks in the top-10 records, which still stands. She was honored with the title of Stanford Athlete of the Year three times and also received the Pac-10 Player of the Week Awards three times.
She was on form during her sophomore year as well and broke her previous record of batting average and received the “Player of the Year” award.
She played as the starting outfielder on Team USA during the Athens Olympic Games. During the “Bound 4 Beijing” Tour Mendoza was able to help Team USA lead in her category in 2008. She received gold medals in the Pan American Games in 2003 and 2007 and was also able to win a silver medal during the World Cup and Japan Cup.
She became named the USA Softball “Female Athlete of the year” in 2006. During the 2007 World Cup, she was able to win the gold medal for her country. She has also won the ISF Women’s World Championship and was invited in the Canada Cup All-Star Team.
Jessica Mendoza : Career in Broadcasting
Mendoza was hired by one of the biggest sports station in the world, ESPN, to work on the network’s Sunday Night Baseball broadcast team. She also worked on the sideline reporting team at ESPNU during the Women’s College Worlds Series.
She began working on ESPN’s Baseball Tonight from June 30, 2014 and later in June 16, 2015, she ultimately became the first femal broadcaster for ESPN’s College World Series coverage along with Karl Ravech and Kyle Peterson in the booth. She was also able to become the first female commentator for a Major League Baseball game in the history of ESPN.
It was announced on the January of 2016, the Mendoza will be working on the Sunday Night Baseball team alongside Shulman and Aaron Boone.
