Dan Smyers had an interest in music since the early teenage and at the age of 14, he discovered himself as a songwriter. To polish his singing career, he further learned to play guitar when he was 16 years old. When we talk about Dan Smyers, we cannot forget about his singing duo partner James Shay Mooney. They immediately teamed up and started writing songs just after the day they met in Nashville, Tennessee. Unfortunately, their first ever song was put on a hold for Rascal Flatts. In a short span of two months, they signed a deal with Warner/ Chappell Music, rejecting numerous publishing offers.
On October 14, 2013, they released their debut single ’19 You + Me’, co-wrote by Danny Orton on country radio. They instantly unleashed their debut album ‘Where It All Began’ on 1st April 2014 after the earlier success of their single. From the album, the duo released their second single ‘Show You Off’ on May 12, 2014. In the same year, they appeared on ‘The Ellen Show’ and performed their song ’19 You + Me’. On February 1, 2014, the twosome appeared for the very first time on Grand Ole Opry.
They released their album’s third single ‘Nothin’ Like You’ to country radio on 23rd February 2015. The song peaked the no. 1 spot in December 2015 on Country Airplay.
Apart from their own single, the duo has also performed an opening act on the tour of a couple of music artists which includes Hunter Hayes “We’re Not Invisible Tour’ and country singer Blake Shelton ‘Ten Times Crazier Tour’. After the end of Shelton’s ‘Ten Times Crazier Tour’, they began their own tour entitled ‘Where It All Began Tour’. On 9th October 2014, they started their tour from Minneapolis and ended it in Columbus, Ohio on 26th October 2014. After the wrap of ‘Where It All Began Tour’, they once again hit the road with Hunter Hayes on his next “Tattoo Tour’.
In August 2015, Dan + Shay declared their ‘Just The Right Kind of Crazy Tour’, across the eastern & Mideast United States. In February 2016, they unleashed their first single ‘From the Ground Up’ from their sophomore album to country radio. Following the album’s second single ‘Ho Not To’ was released on 26th September 2016. It was in the no.1 spot in July 2017, country airplay chart. After the immense success of the second single, the duo released their third single ‘Road Trippin’ on July 17, 2017.
The twosome’s song ‘Stop Drop + Roll’ was popular among youth that it was featured on the episode of ‘Your Good Girl’s Gonna Go Bad’ on season 2 of musical drama series ‘Nashville’ as well as it was presented on an episode of ‘The Bachelorette’. Dan + Shay united with Lindsey Stirling, a dancer, You Tuber and violinist making it a trio and contributed on a song from her third album ‘Brave Enough’. On 19th August 2016, they released their album and named the song ‘Those Days’.
