Bill Hemmer: Personal Life
William George “Bill” Hemmer was born on the Children’s day i.e. November 14th of 1964 in Cincinnati, Ohio as the middle child and second son of retired executive salesman for Serta Mattresses, William R. Hemmer and a former high school teacher, Georganne M. Knittle, among their five children.
He went to a Catholic parochial school Our Lady of Victory, Cincinnati and later graduated from Elder High School, Cincinnati. His passion for broadcasting live had begun from school.
He had started his own radio program while he was a senior at Elder High School. The program played fifteen minutes of music before classes began. It was this little disc jockey thing that had piqued his interest in broadcasting.
He later graduated from Miami University, Oxford, Ohio earning a Bachelor’s degree in Broadcast Journalism. He had joined Delta Tau Delta fraternity while attending Miami University.
Being a stunningly handsome man, it is very surprising that the 53-year-old is a bachelor and has yet to be married. Because of this, there were rumors about him being gay flying around.
Bill Hemmer: Professional Life
Hemmer interned at Mama Jazz at WMUB-FM as a radio disc jockey and at WOXY-FM, also known as America’s first alternative music station, while he was still going to college. Eventually he got the opportunity to intern at a NBC affiliate at Cincinnati. Then he worked as a weekend sports anchor at a CBS affiliate WCPO-TV.
Later he took a year-long break from TV to tour around the world visiting places such as China, Nepal, Vietnam, Egypt, Israel, India, and Eastern Europe. He hosted numerous programs including American Morning, CNN Tonight, CNN Early Edition, CNN Morning News, and CNN Live Today, during the 10 years he worked for CNN.
He was also there to cover the World Trade Center site after the attack on the Twin Tower on September 11 of 2001, in New York City. he travelled to cover the rising tension to Iraq in 2003 and the death of Pope John Paul II from Vatican City in 2005.
After CNN, Hemmer joined Fox News in August 2005 and has been able to cover equally historic events including the Hurricane Katrina aftermath, 2006 Israel-Lebanon crisis, British sailors’ hostage situation in Iran, Iraq War and much more. He is currently anchoring for America’s Newsroom, a 9-11am show, with co-host Sandra Smith.
