Betty Nguyen: Personal Life
Nguyen, who celebrates her birthday on the 1st of September, was born on 1974 in Saigon, Vietnam and belongs to Vietnamese and Scottish American descent. Nguyen’s family shifted from Vietnamese to the United States during the Fall of Saigon in the April of 1975.
When the Vietnamese War was about to come to an end, the family had to flee to South Vietnam. Nguyen was just an infant at the moment.
After moving to the States, she spent her childhood at Fort Worth, Texas and went to college at the University of Texas at Austin. She was fond of cheerleading during her college days and also had the membership of the Zeta Tau Alpha sorority. She admits herself being a fan of Dallas Cowboys, Dallas Mavericks, and Texas Longhorns.
Nguyen has successfully managed to keep her husband under the media’s radar. She broke the news of her pregnancy in July 2015 and successfully gave birth after a previous unfortunate miscarriage.
Betty Nguyen: Professional Life
Betty Nguyen started out her career in Journalism at a CBS affiliate KWTX-TV in Waco, Texas as a morning news anchor and reporter. Later she became the anchor at KTVT-TV, the CBS affiliate in Dallas. During her time at KTVT, Nguyen was able to cover many big events, such as the Columbia disaster.
She moved on to join CNN as a anchor for the weekend morning edition of CNN Newsroom and worked there for six whole years during which she covered many historical events including the presidential elections in Africa, 2010 Haiti earthquake, Hurricane Katrina, and even the death of Pope John Paul II.
She also worked at CBS news as a network anchor and correspondent in 2010, along with being the news presenter for CBS This Morning Saturday, correspondent for The Early Show, and an anchor for the CBS Morning News. After her time in CNN, Nguyen joined NBC in 2013 and started working as a news anchor on Early Today, moving on to First Look at MSNBC.
She was honored by Smithsonian Institute as the first Vietnamese-American to anchor a national television news broadcast in the United States in 2007. She was listed on the TV’s 10 Hottest News Anchors by Maxim.com in 2008. Nguyen was featured on the episodes of Walker, Texas Ranger as a reporter and has also made appearances on Spike Lee’s When the Levees Broke: A Requiem in Four Acts.
She started working as the co-anchor at PIX11 Morning News at WPIX-TV from June 19, 2017, succeeding the legacy of Sukanya Krishnan, who left the station after 17 years of loyalty.
