Amal Alamuddin : Personal Life
As a child, she was named as Amal Ramzi Alamuddin. She is the daughter of Ramzi who is a retired professor of the business studies who used to teach at the American University of Beirut and wife, Baria who is the foreign editor of Pan-Arab newspaper al-Hayat.
When the Lebanese Civil War was in the full scale during the 1980s, Amal moved to London with her family and they settled in Gerrards Cross. Amal went to Dr. Challoner’s High School which is a girl’s grammar school that is located in Little Chalfont, Buckinghamshire.
She then attended St. Hugh’s College, Oxford. From there, she got graduated in the year 2000 with a bachelor of Arts in Jurisprudence as well as received an Exhibition scholarship as well as the Shrigley Award. After that, she joined New York University School of Law the next year from where she received a Jack J. Katz Memorial Award. Amal Alamuddin : Professional Life
Amal joined the NYU to study Master of Laws degree. While there, she worked at United States Court of Appeals for her one semester as a student law clerk. She worked for Second Circuit in the offices of the Sonia Sotomayor, who is now in Supreme Court of United States.
After completing her studies from NYC, she practiced the law for three years at the Sullivan & Cromwell in New York City. In 2002, Amal passed New York Bar and bard of England and Wales in the year 2010. She is mostly known as one of the top humanitarian lawyers.
She works out of the Doughty Street Chambers in London. Amal was one of the two NYU sponsored clerks who worked at International Court of Justice in the year 2004. In addition to that, Amal has worked on Syria as an advisor to UN Special Envoy, Kofi Annan.
She also has been Counsel to an inquiry launched on use of the drones in counter-terrorism. Prior to that, Alamuddin is also known as a published author. She has written the chapters as well as articles on the international criminal law. Additionally, she has also edited the book which is entitled “The Law and practice of Special Tribunal for the Lebanon”.
She has also given the lecture at SOAS, The Hague Academy of International Law, The New School and The University of North Carolina on the international criminal law. Recently, in August 2014, Amal was selected for U.N.’s three-member commission for looking into various possible violations of rules of the war in Gaza during Israel-Gaza conflict.
