Alex Trebek was born on 22 July 1940 in Sudbury, Ontario, Canada. He is the son of father George Edward Trebek who was a chef and moved from Ukraine and mother Lucille Lagacé.

Alex Trebek is a graduate of the University of Ottawa holding the degree in philosophy in 1961. Before that, he completed his education from Lisgar Collegiate Institute in the year 1957. Being very much interested in debates he was the member of the English Debating Society.

He is married to Elaine Callei, a businesswoman, in 1974. After six years of their married life, this couple got divorced in 1981. Alex then married Jean Currivan; a native of New York who is a real estate project manager. Currently, have two children Matthew and Emily.

Alex in 2002 suffered a heart attack later in 2012 he went through the second one. For the second heart attack, he was hospitalized in Los Angeles.

Alex Trebek started his career right after he completed his university education in 1961. He joined CBC and started working as a sportscaster and newscaster. Joining the CBS he worked for both radio as well as television and get specialized in national news and special national events.

Alex Trebek started hosting a Canadian music program in 1963 called Music Hop. As he wanted to continue the job, Alex hosted Reach for the Top which was a high school quiz show in 1966. After a certain year in 1973, he moved to the America and got into NBC to host a game show named 'The Wizard of Odds'.

He also did syndicate shows first for NBC and second for the CBS network. For the CBS network, Alex Trebek hosted a game show 'Double Dare'. This young man has also made several guest appearances in shows being a panelist or player. He was also seen on the NBC game show as a celebrity teammate in The Magnificent Marble Machine and To Say the Least.

After Alex hosted several game shows for the NBC he then returned to CBS network in 1994 to host the Pillsbury Bake-Off till 1998. He was also seen in many commercials for Colonial Penn life Insurance. Alex has also made guest appearances in series like How I Met Your Mother, Hot in Cleveland, The Colbert Report and so on.
