Al Roker is an American television weather presenter and author mostly known for being a weather anchor on Today that airs on NBC. He also has his name in the book of Guinness World Record for 34 hours of the continuous live weather report, beating the record Norwegian weathercaster Eli Kari Gjengedal.

Personal Life

Al Roker was born on 20 August 1954 Queens, New York, United States of America. Al Roker full name is Albert Lincoln Roker Jr. He is the native of Queens, New York, U.S. He attended Xavier High School located in Manhattan and completed his schooling from there.

When he was a child, he used to dream of being a cartoonist. He worked in numbers of projects being the fellow of his school’s cartooning and illustration club. Later, he went on to join the State University of New York at Oswego. From there, he got majored in graphic design as well as broadcast journalism.

Al Roker is married to his wife Deborah Roberts, a journalist. Roker and Roberts met each other in the year 1990 at the NBC. The couple has three children together, two daughters and a son. Their first child, a daughter named Courtney was born in 1987. Their second daughter named Leila was born in 1998 and their third son Nicholas Albert in 2002.

Al Roker weight loss was also great headline when during 2002 he lost his 100 pounds through gastric bypass surgery. Al said he took this step after the failure of various diets. In 2001 he has a total knee arthroplasty on his left knee which he again re-underwent in 2016.

 

Professional Career

At the beginning, he worked at WHEN-TV which is now a WTVH-TV affiliate to CBS. There, he worked as a weather anchor from 1974 till 1976. During that period, he was also attending his university classes. After completing his degree, he moved to Washington, D.C. where he began to work at the position of weathercaster at WTTG.

He was then offered to work at WKYC-TV located in Cleveland in the year 1978 which is the NBC affiliate. She took the offer and worked there for five years. After that, he was promoted to another network WNBC-TV of the same affiliate in New York.

He did a substitute role for Joe Witte between the year 1983 and 1996 as a weather forecaster on the NBC’s ‘NBC News at Sunrise’. He also did a fill in from 1990 till 1995 for Willard Scott on “Today”. In addition to that, he has also hosted his own show titled “The Al Roker Show” in 1995 on the CNBC. Besides, he has also hosted a game show called Remember This? After the announcement of Scott in the year 1996, Roker became the permanent weekday weather forecaster on “Today”.

Prior to that, he has also made his appearance in movies. He has played various roles in numerous films which include Another World, Seinfeld, Reading Rainbow, Mad About You, Men in Black, Sesame Street, World Girl, and the Cloudy with a Chance of Meatballs 2.

In addition to that, Al Roker has also written several nonfiction books. He has also served on Food Network, various radio stations, as well as has given his appearance on several game shows.
