Pardew began his professional footballing career by joining Whyteleafe and Epson & Ewell, a non-league football team, as a part-time player. In 1987, he got the opportunity to play for a second division team called Crystal Palace, which is currently playing in the Premier League.  It was by his efforts that Crystal Palace advanced to the First Division in 1989.
