Although he is known by the name Zach Lee, his full name is Zachary Stephen Lee. He went to study at the McKinney High School. There, as a senior in 2010, he won eleven games with 2.15 ERA ad 90 strikeouts. Additionally, he was highly rated quarterback in the high school passing for the 2565 yards and 31 touchdowns as senior for earning Texas All-State Class 4A Honorable Mention selection as well as First Team All-District 9-4A. Previous to that year, he passed for 2935 yards and 33 Touchdowns and he was also named as District 9-4A Offensive Player of The Year as junior.
After high school, he attended Louisiana State University where he committed playing football and baseball. He was considered as a tough signing because of his football commitment and he reportedly dropped in the draft as a result. However, Lee did sign with Dodgers for $5.25 million which is a franchise record signing bonus. After signing, Baseball America listed him as Dodgers second-best prospect. Later, he made his debut in Dodgers organization for Great Lakes Loons in 2011 in class A Midwest League.

On 18th July 2015, Lee was called up to majors for the first time to serve as an emergency 26th man for the 2nd game of a doubleheader against Washington Nationals. But he didn’t appear in that game.
