Vince Gilligan is an American director, producer as well as a writer. He is widely known for his TV work specifically as creator, executive producer, head writer and director of Breaking Bad and its spin-off Better Call Saul. In addition to that, he was also the writer and the producer for the X-Files and he was also co-creator of its spin-off the Lone Gunmen. His work has made him win two Primetime Emmy Awards, two Critics’ Choice TV Awards and producers Guild of America awards, six Writers Guild of America Awards, one Directors Guild of America award and a BAFTA. Outside TV, he had co-written the screenplay for 2008 movie called Hancock.
Gilligan is the native of Richmond, Virginia, United States of America. He came into this world on 10th February of the year 1967 which has now made him reach at the age of 49. Although he is known by the name Vince Gilligan, as a child, he was named as George Vincent Gilligan, Jr. He is the son of Vincent Gilligan, Sr. and Gail Gilligan. His father is an insurance claims adjuster whereas his mother is a grade school teacher. His parents got divorced in 1974 and then he along with his brother Patrick were raised up in Farmville and Chesterfield County.
Gilligan went to get his education from the laboratory school run by the Longwood College. While growing up, he became the best friends with the future movie editor and film title designer Angus Wall. His interest in film began when the mother of Wall lend her Super 8 film camera to him which he used to make science fiction films with Patrick. One of Gilligan’s movies was titled as Space Wreck which starred his brother in the lead role. After a year, he won the first prize for his age group in film competition at the University of Virginia.
After completing his graduation in 1985 from Lloyd C. Bird High School, he went to get enrolled at the New York University on a partial scholarship. From there, he received Bachelor of Fine Arts degree in film production from the NYU’s Tisch School of Arts. While his tenure at NYU, he wrote the screenplay for Home Fries which later turned into the film. Additionally, he also received the Virginia Governor’s Screenwriting Award in 1989 for the screenplay. His other movies and TV credit include Battle Creek, Hancock, Home Fries, Wilder Napalm, Breaking Bad, A.M.P.E.D., Harsh Realm, The Lone Gunmen, Night Stalker, Robbery Homicide Division, and much more.
