Tom Joyner is an American nationally syndicated program show host and also the founder of Reach Media Inc. He has also founded the BlackAmericaWeb.com and Tom Joyner Foundation. He currently works for ABC which he started from 1994. He is the first Afro-American who has been inducted into the National Radio Hall of fame in the year 1998.

Personal Life

Tom Joyner was born on 23 November 1949 in Tuskegee, Alabama, the United States of America. His parents are Hercules L. Joyner and Frances Joyner. He belongs to a family where many of the members are highly intellectual, grandfather Oscar was the only black physicians in 3,000 in the whole United States.

Tom's parents did graduation in one of the historically black colleges and even his brother Albert studied at Tuskegee Institute, now Tuskegee University. He also was the student of the Tuskegee University and graduate with a degree in sociology. During his college days, he was the part of the fraternity Omega Psi Phi.

He always wanted to be a musician and was in a music band named The Commodores with his friend Lionel Richie despite the try the band could not find success.

Talking about her married life, he has married three times. He first married Dora Chatmon and divorced her in 1996. His next marriage was with Donna Richardson in 2000 and after 12 years of his second marriage, he ended it on 2012. Currently, he is married to Porsha Williams, they for married in 2014. Tom has two children Thomas Joyner Jr. and Oscar Joyner.

 

Professional Life

Tom Joyner at the beginning was on college radio and later continued broadcasting in several other radio stations in Montgomery, Alabama. He then moved to Chicago in 1978 and began working for WVON. After three months of doing a morning show, he moved to WBMX-FM.

He got hired as a general manager of WJPC station by Charles Mootry which is now known as WNTD. Later joining the KKDA-FM and WGCI-FM in Dallas he worked there for eight years where he owned the nicknames of 'The Hardest Working Man in Radio' and 'The Fly Jock'.

Tom signed with ABC Radio Networks in 1994 and started hosting 'The Tom Joyner Morning Show' with a troupe of comedians and commentators. The groups were to report and discuss on the sports of the day, latest news and even played popular R&B songs from the 1970s to 1990s.

Later in the 2005 ', The Tom Joyner Show' was launched which is a nationally syndicated television show. Tom hosted the one-hour long show where includes comedy and sketch comedy shows, musical performances and talent contests.

Tom has also co-written books in 2005 published by Warner Books titled 'I'm Just a DJ but… It Makes Sense to Me' with Mary Flowers Boyce. Amber Books in 2009 published a book 'Tom Joyner Presents How to Prepare for College'.

Apart from that Tom Joyner has also done cameo roles in movies Madea Goes to Jail in 2009 and The Gospel in 2005. He has also seen in many televisions programs. He was also seen in the 2011 Alzheimer's Association Walk to End Alzheimer.
