Soledad O’Brien who is an American broadcast journalist, philanthropist as well as executive producer was born on 19th September 1966. She is the native of St. James, New York, United States. As a child, she was named as Maria de la Soledad Teresa O’Brien. Soledad’s father named Edward is an Australian and is of Irish descent and he was a mechanical engineering professor whereas her mother named Estella is Afro-Cuban and she was a French as well as English Teacher. Soledad was born fifth among the six children to her parents. Her all the siblings got graduated from the Harvard University. She attended Smithtown High School East and completed her schooling from there in 1984. She went to join the Harvard-Radcliffe College in the year 1984 till 1988. But she didn’t obtain the degree until she came back in 2000.
At the beginning of her career, she started working for WBZ-TV as an associate producer as well as news writer. The channel was then the affiliate of NBC in Boston. In 1991, she joined the NBC News as field producer for the Nightly News and the Weekend Today and she was based in the New York. After that, she worked as local reporter and the bureau chief for the KRON for three years which is San Francisco NBC affiliate. While there, she was the reporter on The Know Zone which later moved to the CNET without O’Brien. Starting from the year 1996, she anchored the MSNBC’s weekend morning show as well as the cable network’s award winning technology program called The Site. In July of 1999, she co-anchored the Weekend Today along with David Bloom. She also covered the notable stories such as plane crash of John F. Kennedy Jr. and 1990s school shootings in the Colorado and Oregon.
She then moved to CNN in July of the year 2003 where she joined the Miles O’Brien for co-anchoring flagship morning program of SNN called American Morning. The show was canceled in 2011 and it was replaced by two new programs called “Early Star” and “Starting Point”. On 2nd January, she began to anchor the Starting Point. On 21st February 2013, it was announced that she was going to leave starting point and was starting Starfish Media Group Production Company. Her last day as an anchor on air at the CNN was on 29th March 2013. On 12th June 2013, there was an announcement that O’Brien would join the Real Sports with Bryant Gumbel, sports magazine of HBO.
To talk about her personal life, Soledad is a married woman to her long time boyfriend. She is married to her loving husband Bradley Raymond who is a co-head of the investment banking at the Thomas Weisel Partners. The couple got married to each other in the year 1995. Since then, they have been lining and blissful life. Soledad and Bradley also have 4 children together. Their first child, a daughter named Sofia was born in October of 2000 and their second, again a daughter named Cecilia was born in March 2002. Later, in August of 2004, she gave birth to the twin sons who are named as Charles and Jackson.
Apart from that, Soledad is now at the age of 48 and she has stated that she doesn’t speak the Spanish fluently. She was voted as one of the 50 Most Beautiful People in the World 2000 by the People Magazine. The meaning of her name in Spanish language is “The Blessed Virgin Mary of Solitude”. In addition to that, she is the member of National Association of Black Journalists and The National Association of Hispanic Journalists. Soledad also serves on board of directors for Harlem School for Arts. O’Brien has won numbers of honors and awards. She has also won of an Emmy Awards for being the co-host of The Know Zone that aired on Discovery Channel.
