Born in Wavertee, Liverpool in England on the 5th of December 1993, Ross Barkley is a professional footballer. An English by nationality, he currently plays as an attacking midfielder for Everton and the England national squad. He has twice been Everton Young Player of the Season (2013-2014 and 2014-2015), and has to his credit Everton Goal of the Season (2013-2014) vs. Manchester City.
Currently 22 years of age and 6.2 feet in height, Barkley was also loaned to Sheffield Wednesday in 2012 and Leeds United in 2013. He has played U16, U17, U19, U20 and U21 for England, and made his international debut for the senior national team at the FIFA World Cup 2014.
Barkley had his youth career start with Everton's youth teams as an 11 year old, and was to make his debut in the Premier League for the 2010-2011 season. Unfortunately, a collision with Andre Wisdom of Liverpool in an U-19 match broke his leg in three places. He recovered in time to join the first team for the 2011-2012 pre-season training, making his debut in Everton's first home game losing 1-0 against Queens Park where he was awarded the man of the match. In December 2011, Barkley signed a 4 and ½ year contract with Everton.
For the 2013-2014 season Barkley was back in Everton, and now scoring his first goal for the team in a match against Norwich City that ended in a 2-2 draw where he was declared the man of the match. The first half of the season saw Barkley being titled man of the match many times, some of which came against teams such as Arsenal and Swansea. Scoring a total of 6 goals in 34 Premier League matches that season, Barkley's goal against Manchester City was dubbed “spectacular” by BBC Sports and was also awarded goal of the season during Everton's end of year awards.
Barkley signed a new contract with Everton on 29th of July 2014 but didn't play until 18th October 2014, having sustained an injury. His first goal of the season came on 15th December 2014 during Everton's 3-1 victory over Queens Park Rangers, and also scored in Everton's league matches in the initial 2015-2016 season.
With superb performances in the junior level teams of FIFA and UEFA events, he joined the senior England squad in August 2013, made his World Cup debut against Italy in 2014. His first goal for the senior team came during their 6-0 victory over Scotland in September 2015's UEFA Euro 2016 qualifiers.
Barkley chose to represent England, though eligible to represent Nigeria as well owing to his Nigerian grandfather. His relationship to his father isn't that good according to the reports, and his parents had long split in divorce. His girlfriend currently is Zoe Riozzi, a down-to-earth and humble nursery school worker.
His interviews indicate his decisions to play for Ev his satisfaction to play for Everton, who pays him a weekly salary of $88,923. He has been dubbed “Diamond” by the fans who even have a song dedicated to him !
