Robert Bautista started playing tennis at the minor age of five. Apart from tennis, he played a number of sports especially football as well as he is fond of horseback riding. At the age of 14, he made it clear to the world that he wanted to pursue his career in tennis and gave his entire focus on the same sport. Like every other sportsman, Agut also saw an early failure in his career. He lost the game against Albert Montanes in the ATP 500 Tournament in Valencia in 2009 and was also defeated by Fabio Fognini in the ATP level quarterfinal at St. Petersburg in 2012.
In 2014, he qualified for the semifinal of Heineken Open, where he lost to John Isner. Agut got a breakthrough in his career when he participated in the Australian Open. He started the tournament with a victory over American Tim Smyczek and his second victory was over the world no. 5 Juan Martin del Potro. The triumph over Potro was considered as an epic moment and was recorded one of the 2014 Australian Open upsets. His run for the trophy ended after the loss against Bulgarian Grigor Dimitrov. It was recognized as his career best Grand Slam performance till date.
His unexpected performances lead him a call-up in the Davis Cup to Spain. Unfortunately, he lost both of his game against Germany. Agut next tournament was at the Masters 1000 event of the year, the Indian Wells Masters. In the game, he failed to create a great impact and sadly his campaign ended after the loss against Ernests Gulbis in the fourth round. In May, he participated in the Madrid Open. He made it all the way to the semifinal of the tournament where he battled against world No. 1 Rafael Nadal. It was a bitter truth that Agut didn’t win the trophy but he definitely gave Nadal a run for his money.
He then participated in the French Open. The campaign ended for him after the defeat to the world No. 6 Tomas Berdych. He next played in the Topshelf Open as a practice session for Wimbledon. He showcased his best performance in the tournament and claimed the title, defeating Benjamin Becker. Agut next played in the 2014 Wimbledon Championships. He took over British Andy Murray in the third round after beating Steve Johnson and Jan Hernych. He proved to be a great threat for defending champion Murray, but Murray was just too good to beat. Never the less it was his career best performance.
After Wimbledon, he played in the Mercedes Cup, where he lifted the final trophy, defeating Lukas Rosol. He also played in the U.S. Open in 2014. He took on the world No. 3 Rodger Federer for the very first time, defeating Andreas Haider-Maurer, Tim Smyczek, and Adrian Mannarino. Sadly, he walked out of the tennis court after the loss against Federer. He then flew to Russia to play for the title in the Kremlin Cup tournament in capital Moscow. His amazing tournament wrapped up after the heartbreaking loss in the final against US Open Champion Marin Cilic.

Later that month, he played in Barcelona Open and 2015 BMW Open. Eventually, he ended up losing both the tournament.
After one month he traveled to England to play in the Wimbledon Championships. He packed his bag after the devastating loss against 7-time Wimbledon champion Rodger Federer. He, however, gave an outstanding performance in the tournament. In July, he played as a second seed in the 2015 Croatia Open as well as participated in the 2015 U.S. Open in September. He played as a 23rd seed in the tournament. Agut showed a great sportsmanship and gracefully accepted his loss in the game. Apart from that he also played in St. Petersburg Open, Kremlin Open and 2015 Valencia Open.
Agut was named as the winner of 2016 ASB Classic after he knocked out the genius American Jack Sock. In the 2016 Australian Open, he missed a great opportunity to enter into the first ever Grand-Slam Quarter-Final, despite winning over some of the great champions like Martin Klizan and Dusan Lajovic. He even participated in 2016 Garanti Koza Sofia Open.
In May, he entered the fourth round of the 2016 French Open after beating Paul Henri Mathieu, Dmitry Tursunov and Borna Coric. World no.1 Novak Djokovic splashed water on all his hard work and cut off all his chances to win the Grand-Slam title in the fourth round.
In August, Agut joined the member of Spanish representatives at the International sporting event, the Olympic Games. His hunt for the Olympic gold medal ended after the defeat against Juan Martin del Potro. He further lost in the final of Winston-Salem Open against hometown player Pablo Carreno Busta.
