Robert John Scunderi is popularly known around the globe as an American Ice Hockey defense-man who currently represents Chicago Blackhawks which is one of the teams on National Hockey League. He went to St. Antony High School which is located at the city of South Huntington at New York. After completing his high school education, he went to Boston College where he graduated in the year 1997. He also played four separate seasons for the team Eagles when he was in school. In his freshman season, he was able to tally 24 total assists in 42 games. He also was drafted in the fifth round in the 1998 NHL Entry draft by Pittsburgh Penguins and he stayed in the Boston college for another three years. During the end of his college career, most of the records were registered in his name where he had tallied 169 appearances.
NCAA Division I Men’s Hockey Tournament which was held in the year 2001 was his final game in his college career; the game was won by BC against the defending champions North Dakota. In the year 2001, he began his professional career in American Hockey League along with Wilkes Barre/ Scranton Penguins. He played a total of 75 games where he scored a goal back up by 22 assists.
He debuted in his first ever career in NHL at the season 2003/04. HE spent 2004-05 season along with AHL because of 2004-05 NHL lockout after he gained three points in a total of 13 games at Pittsburgh. The second season for his career, 2005-06, was filled with struggle because he could only contribute only 4 point in a total game of 56 but his position as stay-at-home defense-man proved that he had already earned a permanent position in the Pittsburgh for the season 2006-07. He made a total appearance in 76 games where he scored one goal along with 10 assists.
In the year 2002, 2nd February, he made appearance in his 200th career NHL game which was scheduled against Carolina Hurricanes. Also, in the year 2008, 4th October, he ended a 120 game scoreless streak which was against Ottawa Senators and which was held in Stockholm when he scored a goal in overtime. A year later, he registered his first play-off goal against Philadelphia Flyers of the Eastern Conference on 19th April. During the play-offs in the year 2009, his teammates nicknamed him with the name “The Piece” because he in an interview referred himself as “The missing Piece” while he was trying to say “a piece” in a puzzle. He had already been given the nicknames like “the Piece”, one of the other was “Scuds”.
He had made a crucial play in the late Game 6 in the finals of Stanley cups with a victory of 2-1 against Detroit Red Wings. He ultimately became the first Long Island native to have his name engraved in the Stanley Cup. After some weeks of winning the cup, he was in the market as an unregistered free agent because, the Penguins could not afford his escalating salary. In the year 2015, he got traded with Chicago Blackhawks for another defense-man named Trevor Daley. He has a wife whose name is Courtney and the couple has three children whose names are Ryan, Brett and Kate. He seems to be active in social network since he often tweets in his twitter account. He replaced Kris Letang on the match held on 11th December 2015 because of his injury.
