Randy Owen is a country music artist from the United States. Randy Owen has been the in the music industry, for over 25 years of his life, as a front man and lead vocalist in one of the best-known musical band. He gained tremendous success in the 1980s and 1990s. Randy has released almost two dozens of gold and platinum records till date.

Personal Life

Randy Owen was born on 13 December 1949 in Alabama, the United States of America. He was born and brought up in Fort Payne and is of Native American and English ancestry. He graduated from the Fort Payne High in the year 1969. Owen got his graduation from Jacksonville State University.

He was very much interested in music since his childhood and started to play with his cousin Teddy Gentry since late 1960s.  Later, Randy, Teddy, and their other cousin formed a family band and named it 'Wildcountry'. The band even won at a high school talent show.

Randy Owen is married to his wife Kelly Owen. They exchanged their marriage vow in the year 1975. It is said that they got married when Randy was at the age of 25 and Kelly was 17.They reside in a house located in Fort Payne

Professional Life

As the band 'Alabama' was formed they signed a contract with RCA records in 1980 which was the beginning of a booming career ahead. The three cousins moved to Anniston, Alabama in 1973 to make music as their full-time career. This led them to get a contract with the RCA.

Releasing several songs paved their path to stardom shortly after the start. They were named as Academy of Country Music's Artist of the decade in 1989. The band produced 21 gold, multi-platinum and platinum. There were 73 million albums sold worldwide. They even got a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame.  

The band was awarded the Recording Industry Association of America's Country Group of the Century in the year 1999. In 2005 the band was introduced to the Country Music Hall of Fame. Before the around May 2002 they already announced their retirement from the musical world. Later in 2002 and 2003, they were seen performing as their American Farewell Tour.

Randy Owen has also served as a judge on 'Nashville Star' in its 5th season. He was hosting the program for 'Country Gold' from 21 July 2012 which he left on 2 April 2016. Currently, he is an at-large member of the Board of Trustee of the Jacksonville State University.

He is one of the huge supporters of St. Jude Children's Research Hospital. He did the initiative and formed 'Country Cares for St. Jude Kids'. The program helped raise money for the cancer research in the year 1989.

Much of the cash collected on Alabama June Jam organized by the band was given as a donation to several charities and schools. For this work, they received Bob Hope Humanitarian Award, Minnie Pearl Humanitarian Award, and Radio Broadcasters' Humanitarian Award.

The member of the group was given the 'Spirit of Alabama' medal award by Governor Bob Riley. Randy Owen has also made a huge contribution for the disadvantaged children and even rose over million dollars. 

Randy and his wife Kelly Owen has also constructed the 'Kelly Owen Women's and Children's Pavilion at DeKalb Regional Medical Center.
