Monica Malpass was born on April 28, 1961, in High Point, North Carolina to dad William Ray Malpass. She graduated from University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill in 1983 with bachelor’s degree in journalism. In 1984, she earned herself a globally offered scholarship tilted ‘Rotary scholarship’ to the University of Puerto Rico. She then attended Villanova University from where she collected her master’s degree in political science in 1999. She also received an honorary Doctorate of Humane letters from Neumann College in Pennsylvania. Malpass holds an American nationality and is of White American ethnicity. Given her love for journalism and its related work, she initially started her professional career by working as a reporter for ‘The Daily Tar Heel’, an independent student newspaper at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. Her learning and work experience at Chapel Hill earned her a job offer at WCHL- AM radio station in North Carolina and served the station as a news reporter. A genius and outstanding like Malpass couldn’t have stayed long from her true calling and after leaving WCHL-AM station, she soon joined WFMY-TV in Greensboro, North Carolina and worked there as a reporter. Shortly later she anchored at WXII-TV in Winston-Salem.

In January 1988, she was hired by WPVI-TV in Philadelphia. During her time in WPVI, she presented morning newscasts in the very beginning and later went on to take the 5 p.m. slot. She did interview political personalities like Joseph Liberman, Senators Arlen Specter and Hillary Rodham Clinton, Governors Ed Rendell and Tom Ridge. Her international work includes the coverage of Princess Diana royal funeral which was held in London in 1997, President George W.
