Misty Copeland who is an American Ballet dancer, entertainer, as well as an author was born on 10th September 1982. She is the ballet dancer for American Ballet Theatre which is the one among the three leading Classical Ballet Companies in the United States.
She is the native of Kansas City, Missouri, United States. She was raised up in San Pedro community of the Los Angeles, California. Misty belongs to African American, German American, and an Italian American ethnicity. Misty was born the youngest of the four children to her parents.
Between the age of three to seven, she lived in Bellflower, California along with her mother and her mother’s third husband. She then again moved to the San Pedro when her mother again got married for the fourth time. Misty attended the Point Fermin Elementary School.

When she was at the age of seven, she saw Nadia on the Lifetime and it was at that time when Nadia became her role model. Until her teenage, Misty never learned ballet or gymnastics formally. At her youth, she did enjoy choreographing flips and the dance moves to Mariah Carey songs.
She was first introduced to the ballet classes at her local boys and girls club by Cynthia Bradley. Bradley then invited Misty for attending class at small local ballet school named San Pedro Dance Center. By her age 14, Misty was the winner of National Ballet Contest and she won her first ever solo role.
She was then introduced to books and the videos about the ballet by Bradley. Misty and Bradley decided to pursue a homeschooling for freeing up the time for the dance. It was at her age 15 when she won the first place in Los Angeles Music Center spotlight awards which was held at Chandler Pavilion on 24th March 1988.
After winning the award, she began to study at San Francisco Ballet School. She was declared as the ABT’s National Coca-Cola Scholar in 2000, later in September of the same year, she joined ABT Studio Company and became the member of Corps de ballet the following year.

The Oxygen network announced on 18th November that it was going to produce the docuseries under working title The Misty Copeland Project about Misty as she mentors Master Class of aspiring the young dancers.
