A successful journalist as well as a television host Meredith Vieira was born on 30th December 1953 in East Providence, Rhode Island, US. As a child, she was named as Meredith Louise Vieira. She is youngest daughter of Edwin Vieira and wife Mary Elsie Vieira among the four siblings.  Vieira went to the Lincoln School which is a Quaker all-girls school located in providence, Rhode Island. She then went on to join the Tufts University and got graduated from there with an English degree in the year 1975.

At the beginning of her career, Vieira started working for WORC radio station located in Worcester, Massachusetts as a news announcer. Her television working career began when she joined WJAR-TV as local reporter and an anchor. It made her way clear to newsroom at the WCBS-TV in New York City. She joined WCBS-TV in 1979 and remained there as an investigative reporter until 1982. After resigning from there, she was hired by the CBS News in the same year. It was during her working time in CBS when she first gained herself a national recognition. From her joining period till the year 1984, she was based in the Chicago bureau.

Later, the following year, Meredith began to appear as a correspondent for the nationwide news magazine shows. She appeared in West 57th from 1985 to 1989 and in 60 Minutes from 1989 to 1991. She remained with the CBS till the year 1993. Her last assignment while there was on the CBS Morning News as a co-anchor. The same year, she moved to ABC News as a chief correspondent for the Turning Point. It was premiered on March of 1994. Additionally, Vieira was the host of the show named Intimate Portrait on Lifetime network as well. The show was debuted on 3rd January 1995 and it ran until 28th August of 2004.

After that, she began to serve as an original moderator as well co-host of daily morning talk show titled “The View” which was launched by newswoman Barbara Walters in the year 1997. Later, in 2002, she started to host the show named Who Wants to Be a Millionaire on 16th September 2002. It was an American syndicated version. She continued hosting the show until May 2013. She was then asked to join the NBC in spring of the year 2006 as an anchor for The Today Show. She then accepted the offer and began her anchoring duties from the September of the same year. Since then she has been with the NBC and at present, she is the correspondent for NBC News, host of The Meredith Vieira Show as well as a contributor to Today, Dateline NBC and NBC Nightly News.

Prior to that, Meredith Vieira has made her appearance in film as well. She is featured in an animated romp Shrek Ever After, Get Me To the Greek and Gulliver’s Travels. Additionally, she has also made cameo appearance in “The Wedding of River Song” which was the finale of sixth series of the Doctor Who.To talk about her personal life, Vieira is a married woman. She got married to her husband Richard M. Cohen whom she met in Chicago. The couple exchanged their vows on 14th June 1986. They are having a blissful life so there we can assume that there is very less chance of getting them divorced. Vieira and Cohen have three children together. Among them, two are sons and one is a daughter. The family is currently residing in Irvington, Westchester County, New York.

Apart from that, Vieira has earned the P.T. Barnum Award in the year 2006 from The Tufts University. In addition to that, Vieira was the second female who won Daytime Emmy for Outstanding Game Show Host for hosting the show Who Wants to Be a Millionaire. It was given to her for her exceptional work done in media and entertainment’s field. Meredith is now at the age of 60 and she is of Portuguese heritage. Once, she was asked to pose nude for the Playboy magazine in 2000 but she refused the offer. Vieira has the estimated net worth of 40 million dollar.
