Melissa Click is a communications professor at University of Missouri who is facing the harsh criticism on the social media after she was recorded blocking the student journalists who were trying to cover protests occurring on campus of the school. Melissa is seen in the video telling a student photographer named Mark Schierbecker that he needs to get out of that area where the protesters had camped.

The area is the part of college quad which is a public space. The protests were led by the group known as Concerned Student 1950 who were outrages over the way that university’s administration handled the series of the racist events on college including slurs directed toward student body president as well as a swastika made out of the feces which was found in a dorm.

Melissa Click went to get her education from the University of Massachusetts, Amherst from where she earned her PhD from Department of Communication. Her research interests center on the popular culture texts as well as audiences particularly texts and audiences disdained in the mainstream culture.

The work of her in this are is guided by the audience studies, theories of the gender and sexuality and the media literacy. Her current research projects involve the 50 Shades of Grey readers, impact of the social media in the relationship of fans with Lady Gaga, masculinity and the male fans, messages about the class as well as food in the reality TV programming and the messages about work in the TV programs of children.

Prior to that, Melissa is also the Vice Chair of ICA’s Popular Communication Division as well as she is also the Chair of the committee hosting Console-ing Passions conference at University of Missouri in April of the year 2014.
