Games of Thrones as it seems has been criticized and appreciated both at the same time. Based on George R. R. Martins book series A song of Ice and Fire, the American fantasy drama premiered on HBO in 2011. Say Winter is coming and the first thing on your mind is Game of Thrones!
The night is dark and full of terrors…but the fire burns them all away is the anthem of bio of a character named Melisandre, more famously known as The Red Woman. Carice Van Houten debuts in the season 2 of Game of Thrones first episode The North Remembers as Melisandre, the priestess of the Lord of Light and a close advisor to Stannis Baratheon. Melisandre plays an important character in the seasons following two, three, four, five and six.
Born originally as a slave in Asshai, a country located in the far east of the continent of Essos, she is believed to have crossed the Narrow Sea few years back and have come to the court of Stannis Baratheon, the island having the stronghold of Dragonstone to preach her faith. Named Melony as a small child, she was sold to the temple of the Lord of Light in Asshai at a very young age, where she rose to prominence as priestess and has spent most of her life in the service of the religion.
She is believed to have powerful magical abilities, especially the power of prophecy or so she claims. She is characterized by a large ruby necklace that she wears and seems to glow whenever she performs any magic.
With famous lines as “Death by fire is the purest form of death, There is only one hell, princess. The one we live in now, You know nothing, John Snow”, she has sacrificed many lives for the cause of her god than any other characters in the series.
