Maury Povich show
Maury Povich who is an American TV presenter was born on 17th January 1939. He is mostly known for being the host of tabloid talk show Maury. He is the native of Washington, D.C., U.S. As a child, he was named as Maurice Richard Povich. He is a son of the Jewish couple Ethyl and Shirley Povich who was a sports writer of Washington Post. Maury is the second of three children born to them. He attended Landon School and got graduated from there in the year 1957. He then went on to join University of Pennsylvania from where he graduated with a degree in the television journalism in 1962.
Not long after completing his graduation, he got his first ever job in radio station WWDC. There, he did publicly as well as also worked as a reporter. In 1966, he became the news reporter and the sports caster for the D.C. television station WTTG-TV. The following years, Maury became original co-host of station’s popular midday talk show named Panorama. After that, he began to work as a news anchor at the stations in Chicago, Los Angeles, New York, Philadelphia as well as San Francisco from 1977 till 1983. Later, he again returned to Washington D.C. in the month of June of 1983. He was then brought up by media mogul Rupert Murdoch to New York for hosting “A Current Affair. The show started in the late July of 1986. He hosted the till 1990. In addition to that, he also anchored the newscasts at the WNYW.
After that, he began to host his own show called The Maury Povich Show. The show was nationally syndicated as well as distributed by the Paramount Domestic Television in the partnership with his own Production Company called “MoPo Productions”. He also hosted short-lived prime-time revival of classic Game Show ‘Twenty One’ on the NBC in 9th January 2000. MSNBC announced on November of 2005 that he would be co-hosting a weekend news program along with his wife. The program that titled “Weekends with Maury and Coonie” was debuted on 7th January of the following year but was later it was cancelled because of low ratings. The final episode of the program was later aired on 17th June 2006.
Prior to that, Maury has also co-authored a book entitled “Current Affairs: A Life of the Edge in 1991 which is a retrospective about TV show that he hosted from the year 1986 till 1991. In addition to that, he also launched the weekly newspaper in 2007 in Flathead Valley, MT which was called Flathead Beacon. He has also made his appearance as himself in fourth episode of sixth season of sitcom ‘How I Met Your Mother’. Besides that, he also appeared in the film called Madea’s Big Happy Family as himself.
To talk about his personal life, Maury is married to his wife Connie Chung who is a news anchor. The couple met each other at the WTTG-TV located in Washington while Povich was working there is a news department. They got married in 2nd December 1984. Povich and Connie have two children together, both daughters. They and named as Susan and Amy. They also adopted a son in the year 1995 whom they named Matthew Jay Povich. Previous to that, Maury was married to his ex-wife Phyllis Minkoff. They got married in 1962 and remained together till 1979.
Apart from that, Povich is now at the age of 75 and he stands tall at the height of six feet and one inches. He has won an Emmy Award in the year 1984 for “Best Co-anchor for 10 O’clock News on WTTG-TV. He was also nominated for the Emmy for “Best Informational Series for A Current Affair” in 1989. He has also been honored by the Mayor Rudolph Giuliani of New York City in 1995 for raising the awareness of the National Adoption Month. He has an annual salary of $14 million and his net worth is estimated as $45 million.
