Mary Carillo is an American television personality and a former tennis player. She is popularly known for her work with ESPN and HBO. She was ranked no.33 in the Women’s Tennis Association Rankings. Carillo also reported news for NBC Olympics and NBC Sports.

Personal and Family Life

A short time after graduation, Carillo strongly decided to make her career interest in tennis and soon starting sweating on the tennis court. She professionally started playing the tennis on women’s circuit in the late 70s and was listed world no.33 in the Women’s Tennis Association Rankings. In the early 80s, she retired from Tennis following the knee injury.

Carillo was more aggressive and efficacious while playing mix-doubles rather than single. She was the deserving winner of 1977 French Open mixed-doubles in which she was partnered with John McEnroe who coincidentally happened to be her childhood friend. That understanding and good communication brought and astonishing victory in both of their career. The duo reached to the Wimbledon quarter-final and also made it to the final of women’s doubles quarter at the US Open.

After the retirement, she moved to the television and made her debut on USA Network from 1980 to 1987. She then served PBS from 1981 until 1986. Soon after leaving PBS, she joined the team of MSG and worked there until 1988. Her fabulous work on the previous network soon earned her a job at ESPN in 1988 and served the network for 9 years. From 1986, she started working for CBS Sports reporting U.S. Open. Her work assignment seems to be completely unstoppable.

In 1996, Carillo joined HBO both as an analyst and anchor to report the news of Wimbledon coverage and left the network in 1999. Later the year, she worked for Turner Sports with the very same job title and stayed with the network up to 2002. She has also served NBC Sports for the network’s coverage of Wimbledon and French Open. She worked as a tennis specialist in 1996 Atlanta and 2000 Sydney as well as she also reported the CBS coverage of 1992 Albertville, 1994 Lillehammer and 1998 Nagano.

Carillo reported three of the major competitions bobsled, luge, and skeleton throughout NBC’s coverage of the 2002 Salt Lake Winter Olympics. She further went on to receive a wide appraise for her bang on hosting in the 2002 closing ceremony. She also received a critical acclaim for Bravo’s coverage of 2004 Athens Games.
