A Sudanese British professional basketball player Luol Deng has played for the Miami Heat of National Basketball Association. When he was 19 years old, he got selected as an NBA All-Rookie First Team with Chicago Bulls in 2004. He was an All-Star with them in 2012 and 2013 before he split 2013-2014 season with Cleveland Cavaliers. Just after half season with the Cleveland, Luol joined Miami Heat in July of 2014. Deng is the native of Wau, Sudan. He came into this world on 16th April of the year 1985 which has now made him reach the age of 31. Although he is known by the name Luol Deng, his full name is Luol Ajou Deng.
Deng is the member of Dinka ethnic group. While he was a young boy, his father moved his family to Egypt for escaping Second Sudanese Civil War. While in Egypt, they met the former NBA center Manute Bol who taught Deng’s elder brother how to play the basketball while also serving as a mentor for Luol himself. When the family was granted political asylum, they emigrated to Brixton, South London. Deng went to get his education from the St. Mary’s RC High School which is a voluntary aided comprehensive school located in Croydon in South London. He developed his interest in football admiring Faustino Asprilla of Newcastle United but he also played basketball.
During that time, he started his career at the Brixton Basketball Club. He represented Croydon at London Youth Games and he was inducted into their Hall of Fame. When Deng was 13 years old, he played for the England’s squad in European Junior Men’s Qualifying Tournament. After a year, he moved to the United States for playing basketball at the Blair Academy. He was considered as the five-star recruit by Rivals.com and he was also listed as Number 1 small forward and number 2 player in the nation in 2003.
Later, Deng accepted an athletic scholarship for attending the Duke University. After just a year at Duke, he entered 2004 NBA Draft.
