Currently endorsed by Yamaha, Jorge Lorenzo Guerrero is a motorcyclist who became the 2006 and 2007 World Champion for 250cc, and the winner of MotoGP editions of 2010, 2012 and 2015. He became in 2015 the rider from Spain with the most number of wins in MotoGP. Earlier in 2012, he created history by being the first Spanish rider to win various titles.
Born in Palma de Mallorca, Spain on May 4th 1987, Lorenzo has been actively participating in professional motorcycle racing circuits since 2002 to present. From 2002 to 2004 he was involved in the 125cc World Championship, and from 2005 to 2007 he participated in the 250cc World Championship winning 2 times. His MotoGP World Championship career began in 2008, with 3 championships under his belt. The most successful rider of Spanish nationality in pro-circuits till date, he was officially linked to the Movistar Yamaha MotoGP team for 2008 shortly after being confirmed as Valentino Rossi's partner for the MotoGP 2008.
With a of height 5 feet 7 inches and 65kgs in weight, Jorge Lorenzo lives off an impressive million dollar house in Barcelona, and is the 2nd highest paid MotoGP riders with a current salary of $9.2 million per year. His house is pretty imposing, 12,917 spquare feet of area, with a training facility, heated pools, private disco and a theatre etc. He rides bike number 99, and his current girlfriend is Elena Morali, an Italian TV host, model and actress though some speculate of their breakup.
Lorenzo's use of a helmet akin to a helmet as seen in Halo 3: ODST (video game) in the Valencian GP in 2009 let to the naming of a character in the game Halo: Reach named “Jorge” after him. The 2013 Valencian GP saw him being sponsored helmets from another video game franchise Call of Duty.
Lorenzo's fans have been growing, since he cemented his victory in the Moto GP 2015 edition and that has seen Lorenzo's active involvement in social media as well. His Instagram account: jorgelorenzo99 (with over 800 thousand plus followers), shows his involvement with fans through quotes, contests and moments of his achievements. His Twitter account : @lorenzo99 has over 1.28 million followers. His interest in things other than motorcycling, like F1 racing and humanitarian works are also seen. Lorenzo's humanitarian efforts is evident through his participation in providing support for the victims of 2010 Haiti earthquake through involvement with Oxfam International Confederation.
Strong, determined and aggressive (as shown by his rivalry with fellow riders in and out of his team), Lorenzo was suspended in 2005 for his aggressive riding and overtaking techniques. Even multiple injuries haven't held Lorenzo down to climb atop the order to finish closer to the winning title in many competitions, and in many cases, where he was not in peak physical form. But injuries and rivalry aside, Lorenzo takes every race as if he were born to ride. On December 15th, Lorenzo tweeted, “Maybe you don't have the life you dreamed, but possibly you have the life many are dreaming.” The man is absolutely right : after all, he's living every petrol-head's dream.
