Issa Rae

Issa Rae is the native of Los Angeles, California, United States. She was born on 12 January 1985. Although she is known by the name Issa Rae, her full name is Jo-Issa Rae Diop. Her parents are Dr. Abdoulaye Diop and Delyna Diop. Father Dr. Abdoulaye is a pediatric doctor who is currently practicing medicine in Inglewood, California.

Before Issa and her family relocated to the States they lived in Dakar, Senegal. Her other family members also include her four siblings. She spent most of her childhood in Potomac, Maryland and later moved to View Park-Windsor Hills when she was six.

She attended King Drew Magnet High School of Medicine and Science and also initiated acting. Issa then in 2007 majored in African and African-American Studies from the Stanford University. She was already involved in making videos, play and also created Dorm Diaries.

Passionate about her dreams she got a theater fellowship in New York City at 'The Public Theater'. Her friend Tracy Oliver, who assisted her in the making of 'Awkward Black Girl' and got her on the show as Nina, joined New York Film Academy.
