Self proclaimed “weather nerd” Indra Petersons is an anchor and meteorologist, seen on CNN covering the what-and-why of weather reports on programs such as Early Start and New Day. She has been active as a TV meteorologist since 2002, and she has been married since 2013 to Jake Wood. Her husband is a former US Marine Corps Scout Sniper.

Born as Indra Valija Petersons in Los Angeles, California on 22nd of June 1980 to Dr. Viesturs T. Petersons (a neurosurgeon) and Silvija Petersons (nee Ducis), she is of Latvian descent and her name is derived from a city in Latvia.

She is fluent in English and Latvian (her first language) and can understand Spanish. By age three, Petersons was playing piano as well as skiing, and she spent her childhood learning about the heritage and history of Latvia including native folk-songs and dances. She leads an exciting life traveling around the world. Chasing storms and tornadoes across the globe may sound like a professional vacation, but that hasn't stopped her to go diving with white sharks in Africa, sandboarding at Peru, exploring the Amazon, ride camels on the deserts of Jordan and celebrate Holi in the streets of Delhi in India.

After completing her high school from La Canada High School in 1998, Petersons entered University of Arizona and graduated in 2002 with a B.Sc. in Atmospheric Physics with business, math and physics as minors. She then began her career in 2002 as a meteorologist for KVIA in El Paso, Texas and later KEYT in Santa Barbara, California. She then worked in 2003 as a meteorologist, weather producer and reporter on environmental and general issues at KABC in Los Angeles, California where she held her positions until leaving for CNN's New Day in 2013. Reporting on weather issues under extreme conditions, Petersons worked for both CNN domestic and CNN Worldwide. She currently works for ABC News, and holds an American Meteorological Society Certified Broadcast Meteorologist certificate.

Voted in 2011 by public as the city's best meteorologist on the Los Angeles Hotlist, Petersons was awarded the STEM Leadership in Media Award by The Alliance for Women in Media. She also serves in the directorial board for the Kids First Fund, which is a not-for-profit organization that works to support women and children who are abused sexually and physically.

She has over 20 thousand followers on twitter, and she can be followed @IndraPetersons for updates. Coincidentally, Her name Indra is also the name of the Hindu god of weather and thunder. How awesome is that for a meteorologist ?
