Iain Duncan Smith who is a British Conservation Party politician was born on 9th April of the year 1954. He is often referred by his initials IDS. He is the native of Edinburgh, United Kingdom. He is the son of W. G. G. Duncan Smith and Pamela Summers. He went to get his education from the St. Peter’s RC Secondary School, Solihull until he was 14 years old.
He then attended the HMS Conway which is a Merchant Navy Training School on Isle of Anglesey till he was 18. He had also claimed that he went to study at the University of Perugia. He then attended the Royal Military Academy Sandhurst in the year 1975 and was subsequently commissioned into Scots Guards.
It was on 28th June of 1975 when he was commissioned into Scots Guards as the second lieutnant with the service number 500263. After a couple of year on the same date, he was promoted to the lieutenant and later on 2nd April of 1981, he got retired from military moving to Regular Army Reserve of Officers. At the beginning of his political career, he contested constituency of Bradford West at 1987 General Election where he was defeated by incumbent Labour Party MP Max Madden.
He then stood in constituency of the Chingford at 1992 General Election and was selected to the parliament. From 2001 till 2003, he was a Leader of the Opposition and Leader of the Conservative Party. In the year 2003, his MPs passed the vote of no confidence in his leadership but he immediately resigned and was then succeeded by Michael Howard. Since 2010, he has been the secretary of State for Work and Pensions.
