Gennady Golovkin choose to be a boxer where his elders joined Russian Army
Gennady Golovkin was born on 8 April 1982. He is the native of Karaganda, Karagandy Providence, Kazakh SSR. Golovkin is of Russian and Korean descent. His father is a Russian and was a coal miner whereas his mother is a Korean and she was an assistant in a chemical laboratory.
Gennady Gennadyevich Golovkin is one among the four children to his parents. The people who pushed him to the ring were his older brothers named Sergey and Vadim. However, both of his elders join Russian army when he was at the age of eight. Sadly both of them died in 1990 and 1994 as per the information of the government.
It is said that when Gennady was small he used to walk around the streets with his siblings and always pick up a fight with the bigger men. He told he was never afraid of anyone even those who are elder then him. Every day, different guys.
Gennady Golovkin was a scholarship holder of the Olympic Solidarity program
Gennady won the scholarship and became the member of Olympic Solidarity program since November of the year 2002. He won the gold medal at 2003 World Amateur Boxing Championships that was held in Bangkok. There, he defeated two-time champion Matvey Korobov, Lucian Bute, Andy Lee and Yordanis Despaign in semifinals and Oleg Mahskin in the final. The following year in the Summer Olympics, he defeated Andre Dirrell and Ramadan Yasser and later lost to Russian Gaydarbek Gaydarbekov.
During the fight, he was awarded silver medal for his performance. Later, as Gennady won the 2004 Asian Amateur Boxing Championships in Puerto Princesa, Philippines he was then qualified for Athens Games. Showing his skill there he defeated the home fighter Christopher Camat in the finals. The next year in 2005, Gennady lost his game to Mohamed Hikal. He made a remarkable record in an amateur career which ended in the year 2005.
Gennady Golovkin signed with Universum Box-Promotion right after his completion of amateur years
Following the end of Gennady Golovkin's amateur career, he then signed a professional deal with Universum Box-Promotion (UBP). After the contract, his professional debut was made in May of the year 2006. He then terminated his contract with UBP in January of 2010. Signing his contract with K2, Gennady moved to California to get trained in Big Bear with Abel Sanchez, a veteran trainer.
Gennady got his first ever major Middleweight title on 14th August 2010. Later, he was promoted to the status of the WBA Regular Champion. It was after Felix Sturm the previous WBA champion was promoted to the Super Champion by WBA.

Gennady Golovkin in 2013 became the "Fighter of the Year"
Golovkin made his first successful WBA title defense in December of 2010 by beating Nilson Julio Tapio of Colombia. The following year in December, he fought against Lajuan Simon for vacant IBO Middleweight Title and won his second World Title in the process. In the year 2013, Gennady was named as the “Fighter of the Year” by readers of The Ring magazine. Gennady is a current WBA as well as IBO Middleweight Champion. He is very discipline in his workout.
To talk about his personal life, Gennady is married to his lovely wife Alina. The couple has a son whom they have named Vadim. His son is in the primary school. Apart from that, Gennady stands tall at the height of ten feet and eleven inches. He is fluent in four languages which are English, German, Kazakh and Russian.

Gennady Golovkin has been making good money knocking down many other boxers. He earns plenty of money with his fights till date. According to Forbes, he was in number two list of most paid boxer in 2016. Now he has climbed one step further and become the wealthiest boxer.
