Born on 15th November 1983 in Madrid, Spain, Verdasco started practicing tennis at the age of 4 with his father on the backyard of his home. Diagnosed with ADHD as a child, treatments were not given to him in order to avoid doping suspicions in the future if he continued a career in Tennis. He had a full time coach training him by the time he was 8 years old, and his father decided to handle his academic training after Verdasco stopped school at the age of 11.
He was a professional player in 2001, and achieved the spot 464 in the world rankings at the end of the season the same year. In 2002, Verdasco won his first Futures Category title in Spain, and in 2005 reached number 32 in the world rankings by defeating tennis maestros Andy Roddick (2 times) and Novak Djokovic. He climbed higher in the rankings to 13th place in 2008, and the same year saw him join Andre Agassi's team and went on to win three Davis Cup titles in 2008, 2009 and 2011. Verdasco and his compatriot Rafael Nadal had the 2nd longest game ever in Australian Open history – lasting 5 hours and 14 minutes, when they faced each other in the 2009 edition of the event, and though Nadal emerged victorious in the end, Verdasco rose to world rankings in the 10th spot after this game. His achieved his current ranking after facing Djokovic in 2009.
A supporter of the football club Real Madrid, Verdasco loves the English rock band Oasis and once reportedly proposed to listen to their album Definitely Maybe (1994) and play a tennis match !
