Every part of Holmes’s family member plays a contributing role in her success. Her father, Christian Holmes IV, used to work in many countries such as United States, Africa and in China for government agencies such as USAID. Holmes’s mother, Noel Anne, worked as a Congressional Committee Staff.
It was her parents’ collective efforts in disaster relief that set Holmes on an early path towards science and service. They also provided her the first funds to start off Theranos.
Her brother also directs the product management at Theranos. Holmes’s busy career often requires her to travel different states, countries, and nations for expansion. Till date, Holmes has 18 US patents, 66 non-US patents and over 100 patents as co-founder under her belt.
Elizabeth Holmes became very infamous in 2016 because of the potential fraud scandal she was in.
In 2016 she underwent serious criminal investigation for misleading her investors and also the government about the blood-testing technology. Following the infamous incident, she was listed in Fortune’s “World’s Most Disappointing Leaders”.
Not only that, she was also banned from owning, operating, or directing any diagnostic lab for two years by Center for Medicare and Medicaid Services. In 2015, she was named the youngest self-made female billionaire. The valuation of Theranos was $9 billion then. Next year the net worth was revised to $4.5 billion to nothing. The decision is still under appeal.
Elizabeth Holmes has always kept her image very professional among the public.
Holmes has also appeared on TED to share her invention, Edison, a blood sample taking a device which is way smaller than the regular one.
