Chirlane McCray is a popular writer, editor and poet who was born on 1954 in Springfield, Massachussetts, USA.

Her mother used to work as assembly worker and father was inventory clerk. Her family moved to USA when she was just 10 years old.

McCray was only black student in her class during her school days and she says she had faced racism and bullying in her childhood and started to write poem as a part of expression of anger and even wrote column in for school newspaper.

She later went to Wellesley College. After her college she began to work for Redbook. She than wrote an essay named I am Lesbian regarding sexuality of black woman.

She has written many articles and has published. She felt in love with her husband Bill de Blasio while they were working for New York City Hall. The couple together has son and daughter together.
