Though she was born in Manhattan, it was in Evanston, Illinois that Cusack was raised. Her mother was a maths teacher and a political activist, while her father was a writer, producer and an actor. Ann Cusack attended the Piven Theatre Workshop in Evanston as well as the Berklee College of Music in Boston along with her brother John Cusack and sister Joan Cusack, both actors. Her other siblings are Bill, and Susie. Ann began her acting career at the tender age of 9, and was also a student at the Circle in the Square Professional Theatre School in New York. Apart from acting, she also has toured the country as a part of the a-capella group.
After playing Shirley Baker in A League of Their Own, Cusack shared the screen alongside Andie MacDowell and Michael Keaton in Multiplicity, a comedy released in 1996. In the same year, Anita Barone was replaced by Cusack in The Jeff Foxworthy Show till the end of the series. On Lifetime Television (1998) Cusack played the role of Maggie, and then followed a string of shows where Cusack made her appearance as a guest actor, a few among many others are Castle, Criminal Minds, Frasier, Boston Legal, Ghost Whisperer, One Tree Hill, Grey's Anatomy, Charmed, Scandal, The Unit, Bones, Ally McBeal, and Private Practice. She also made a notable guest appearance in Star Trek : Enterprise episode titled Carbon Creek. She also appeared as Diane Gaines (the lead character's mother), along side Joan and John (her siblings) in the film Accepted. In 2006, two episodes of the Lost Room (a sci-fi series) saw Cusack playing Helen Ruber. Her most recent work also includes Nightcrawler (2014), which was nominated for best screenwriting in the Academy Award.
As it can be seen from the above data, Cusack isn't the only one in her family who is in the entertainment industry, and since her father himself was an actor and a producer in his own right, it may be of no surprise that most of the children in the family found their niche in the field of acting. Ann herself has over 50 films/shows to her credit, and is also the eldest among her five siblings : all of whom are surprisingly actors.
Cusack is of 5 feet 8 inches (approx.) in height, and has an Irish ancestry background.
